Equal Rights - Part I

You know – I wrote a blog a few months ago, maybe even longer, about double standards and loving your neighbour as yourself, etc.  Actually as I think about it, it may have been a series of blogs.

As of late -  I have seen a lot of attacks towards different religions from people.  These attacks may have been due to the marriage equality law change in the USA, or perhaps even the Caitlyn Jenner(formerly Bruce Jenner) discussion.

Christians are generally attacked or “judged” for their beliefs.  If you call yourself a Christian but have different beliefs on certain topics you can still be judged for those certain topics even if you disagree with them.

So – I may be judged for a homosexual topic, or a sex-change topic, and you may not even know where I stand on these individual topics, but because I’m a Christian I somehow deserve to be judged like everyone else.

The problem is not that you hate Christianity as a whole.  The problem is you hate the fundamentalists, or you hate the people who don’t really practice their religion or study their religion and they know enough verses here and there to be able to say “homosexuality is wrong” or whatever other topic may come up, or you hate the extremists.

Then again – you’re probably part of a group that has extremists.  If you’re a feminist – there are extremists within feminism who go so far down that path that they believe that women should have more rights than men.  Yet every time I talk to a woman who says she’s a feminist, she says that she’s for equal rights.

The point is a majority of people who know about Christianity but aren’t Christians, are quick to show that it says many things in the old testament about things you can and can’t do.  The problem is many people don’t understand the why.

The whole purpose of this is everybody tells Christians to leave their ideology at home, yet every other group has a right to express their ideology.

If someone else comes up to me and tells me that they have a problem with Christianity and point to an Old Testament verse – I’m going to flat out tell you that your problem is not with Christianity but with Judaism.  While Christianity would be better called Judeo-Christianity, if I live under the New Covenant/Testament – why does everyone judge Christianity based on the past.

If I’ve been given a nickel for all the times I’ve been told “don’t judge” since becoming a Christian, I’d be a rich man.  The issue is I’m only expressing an idea.  At the same time, if I can count the number of times I’ve been judged since becoming a Christian, I’d be even richer.

My point here is this:  don’t judge an entire group because of certain “sects” within the group.  Some people say that Christianity is against feminism – yet the Bible teaches love your neighbour as yourself.  Some people say Christianity is against homosexuality.  Well technically Christianity is against sex outside of marriage period.  This is an ideology.  Some people agree with it while others disagree.  If you disagree, then don’t become a Christian, or find a sect of Christianity that does agree with what you want.

You want equal rights?  Don’t judge me and I won’t judge you.  You want equal rights?  Judge me and I’ll judge you.  You want equal rights?  Disrespect me, and I’ll disrespect you.  You want equal rights?  Respect me and I’ll respect you.
